I received the KinderPerfect card game for free to feature in this blog post. All opinions are my own.
Ever have one of those Mondays that feels so stressful, so exhausting, that you feel like it should be placed at the END of the week rather than the beginning? Yeah, me, too. Because it’s the holidays, the days of sugar and excitement and SANTA, my son is currently standing on a couch in his underwear, covering his ears while he screams the lyrics to Jingle Bells. Note to self: Hide the candy canes before we go into sugar overload. Yeah, it’s one of those Mondays. Luckily, I’ve got just the mocktail to help with that whole situation… because sometimes mommy needs a time out. Plus, this Mr. Grinch mocktail only has 3 ingredients, so by the end of the glass, you’ll feel more like a holiday CheerMeister than a Grinch… trust me.
Start the Mr. Grinch mocktail with a fancy sugared rim. You can totally just use sugar, but if you want it to be all pretty and green, find some green sugar sprinkles, or DIY it by putting sugar in a bag (I like a mix of finer granulated sugar and thicker raw sugar to add a little “crunch” to the rim) with a few drops of green food coloring, then shaking it until it’s green. Using a little corn syrup to rim the glass will help the sugar resist melting down the sides, just a tip.
Once you’ve got the glass rimmed, you’re over halfway done with the drink. That’s why I call it kind of a lifesaver for last-minute holiday parties where you need a fun drink but have no desire to put in any actual time or effort. Once you’ve rimmed the glass, you’re pretty much done, because the next step is the drink itself.
Pour in Melon-flavored sports drink to fill the glass halfway. Top it off the rest of the way with your favorite lemon-lime soda.
Finish it off with a heart that’s grown three sizes in a day, or a maraschino cherry with a stem… whichever one you have lying around will work. Then, serve. Or drink them all yourself. Whichever the season is calling for, really.
This season has made me need a time out. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that my son is still screaming Christmas carols in his underwear on the couch, but I’m going to crack at some point. The tangible evidence of this is the gift that I wrapped in 40 zip ties and 45 yards of duct tape. I LOVE Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday ever. But something about 2016 just isn’t clicking, and that’s why I need a time out. Or a good laugh. Luckily, KinderPerfect is both of those things… if you’ve ever played Cards Against Humanity, you kind of know the concept already– every player gets 10 white cards. A random red card is played in the middle of the table, and every player puts down their best white card to “answer” the red card. The one that is the best, funniest, or downright most terrible wins the round.
With KinderPerfect, that often means things like “What’s that smell?” “Expecting a smile and getting a face full of puke.” Because as a parent, that’s… shockingly very relatable. I’d say most parents have been there at least once.
Between gift wrapping, tree decorating, magical Christmas train rides, and all of the things we, as parents, do to make Christmas as freaking MAGICAL as possible for our kids (I’m looking at you, parents who actually have the energy to do Elf on the Shelf), we parents can use a little bit of magic of our own.
That’s the brilliance of this mocktail– it’s pretty much magic because you’re done making it in like 30 seconds and can get on to actually doing something fun, like playing KinderPerfect with your mom friends who are also way over this holiday season. It’s the perfect drink and game for your next Christmas party, because it’ll give you the break you all so desperately need. And for the record, it makes a lame Christmas party way less lame once you start playing.
If you happen to have Cards Against Humanity or Crabs Adjust Humidity or anything else. these cards mix right in for even more fun gameplay. It’s a great way to expand both games seamlessly.
