The best thing about Easter Dinner? Totally Easter Dinner– who can resist all of the amazing food on the table at Easter time? The worst part, though? Kids getting bored while you’re preparing it. It’s just a fact of life that kids are going to get bored while you’re preparing easter dinner, and when they’re not bored, well, they tend to get underfoot and make glazing ham and making scalloped potatoes a little bit more difficult.
But I have the perfect game that will keep everyone entertained, and to make it a little bit sweeter, I’m including a free printable for this fun Easter game to get you started. This roll-a-face dice game using the Eggheads kit from PAAS Easter egg is so easy to play that even young kids will have a blast, and this Easter game is sure to be a part of your Easter traditions for years to come.
Eggheads Roll-a-Face Easter Game Supplies
For this craft and game, you’ll need:
- Eggs (1-2 for each person playing the game)
- Heinz Vinegar (affiliate)
- PAAS Eggheads Easter Egg Kit, available at a store near you.*
- The free Printable Roll-a-Face Game Sheet
- A die (affiliate)
*If you cannot find the Eggheads Easter Egg kit near you, you can purchase PAAS egg kits online, and use these fun face stickers. It isn’t eggs-actly the same, but it will work for the Roll-a-Face Easter game in a pinch!
The Eggheads Kit from PAAS comes with all kinds of fun things to decorate your eggs with! It contains creative stickers, hats, accessories, and even hair and glue.
The Roll a Face game is such an easy way to keep kids busy, and the rules are incredibly simple– roll the die, and whatever number you land on indicates what you’ll add to your egg.
Dyeing the Eggs
You’ll want to dye eggs following the package instructions, like we did. First, place the dye tablets in a cup and dissolve them in 1 Tablespoon of Heinz vinegar each. Once the tablets have dissolved, add half a cup of room temperature water to each cup and dye your eggs.
The bright, vibrant colors make for tons of fun with kids. I love how our eggs turn out every time. Of course, there’s an egg dipper, so it makes dyeing even easier!
While the kids dye the eggs, you can take a few minutes to punch out the hats that are included– the kit includes everything from cowboy hats to crowns!
It’s also a great time to cut out and assemble the bases that line the side of the box. These are great shirts and pants for the eggs, and they also keep the eggs upright during game play, which is pretty essential as everyone starts getting excited and laughing! It definitely helps prevent a Humpty Dumpty situation!
Gameplay and Variations
- Each player selects a base for their egg– be wary, though, because certain numbers allow for players to have to swap bases with another player!
- Gameplay starts with the youngest player. Roll a die.
- Add whatever item the die lands on to your egg (for example, if you roll the number that denotes facial hair, you must add facial hair).
Standard Play
If a player has an item already on their egg, such as they roll eyes but already have eyes, they may roll again until they get the feature that they do not yet have.
Variation: Silly Surprise
To play the Silly Surprise variation on this fun Easter game, continue adding whatever you roll– if you already have a pair of eyes on your egg, and roll that you need to add eyes, you must add additional eyes to the egg. One egg may end with 8 pairs of eyes and no mouth, but another may have only lips and hair.
Variation: Lose a Turn
This variation is best for older players. If a player rolls and already has that item, they must lose a turn. When gameplay comes back to them, they may try again for a piece they don’t currently have.
Variation: Steal
In another variation for older players, you may roll the dice and “steal” a hat or base from another player if you roll a hat or a base.
The rules to the game are definitely simple enough that even young players can understand the game, but they’re fun enough with steals and swaps that your older players will definitely get giggles out of it, too. I mean, check out that hair! How can you not have fun playing a game that involves hair like that!
The printable of the game play comes with two copies of the game. We love to do a random act of kindness by packaging a copy of the game, a box of the Eggheads Dye Kit from PAAS, and a die to gift to a hostess that you know has children, or to leave on the front step of a neighbor’s house as a fun surprise gift for them to enjoy!
