It’s no secret… we’re big dinosaur fans around here! When we’re on the go, I have dinosaur toys in my bag to keep my kiddo entertained. But the real secret? I’m a big fan of dinosaurs, too. Growing up, I loved watching movies like The Land Before Time, and I remember in second grade when we got to pick a dinosaur to make a wire sculpture of (I picked a pterodactyl, by the way, which my son will remind me is not a dinosaur, but is actually a pterosaur). There’s just something so special about being able to share the love of Dinos with my little guy, meaning I’m always looking for a new, fun dinosaur craft or recipe to make with him!
Because we’ve just gotten a new bed for his room, we’ve been talking a lot about artwork to include by his bed. He definitely wanted something with dinosaurs, and after brainstorming, we came up with the perfect plan– dinosaur footprints, inspired by some of our favorite characters, like Cera, Petri, and Duckie!
To start, simply take a cardboard tube (we just used a paper towel roll cut in half) and fold it into dinosaur-foot shapes. Then, dip the end in paint and press it onto a canvas.
Get creative with other fun stamping textures, too, by using crumpled paper, paper towels, leaves, bark, and other items dipped in paint and stamped onto the canvas!
You can also make itty-bitty dinosaur footprints by taking affordable dinosaur toys and pressing them into paint, then walking them across a canvas– it’s a great way to play AND create art at the same time!
Set it aside to dry, and then your art will be ready to hang! We decided to hang it up at bedtime, then curl up and watch a movie together. What better choice than The Land Before Time? Now that the complete collection is available at Walmart while supplies last, we’re on a mission to watch all of the films together– from the very first one that I loved as a little girl, to the most recent one that’s come out during my son’s childhood. It’s the same beloved characters, like Littlefoot, continuing to inspire generations with tales of bravery, family, and friendship.
For my son and I, watching movies before bed means cuddling up under big fuzzy soft blankets, picking a movie, and enjoying some Pop Secret popcorn, too. But when you’re watching a dinosaur movie, sometimes you just need the perfect dinosaur themed movie night snack. I knew when buying the Land Before Time movies at Walmart, I had to grab some Pop Secret popcorn there, too!
One of our favorites starts by popping Pop Secret popcorn. My son is such a popcorn fan that I’m pretty sure we have it almost every night before bed, so he’s become a pro at helping me pop it in the microwave! Once your popcorn is popped, just spread your popcorn on a baking sheet.
Randomly scatter gummy dinosaurs across the popcorn, making sure there’s one in every handful of popcorn. This is a great part of the recipe to have your little ones help with! Then, crumble up 3-4 chocolate sandwich cookies. Alternately, you could use a small snack-sized baggie of crumbled mini sandwich cookies. Sprinkle them over the top! The crumbles of cookie remind me of the tar scene in the original Land Before Time movie!
Microwave 1/3 cup white chocolate chips for 15-30 seconds or until melted. If you find the chocolate is a bit too thick to pour, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil to thin it out. Then, pour or spoon it over the popcorn mixture on the tray!
Finally, sprinkle a tablespoon of your favorite sprinkles over the top for a sweet finish on this yummy movie night snack! Pop it in the fridge for about 15 minutes to let the chocolate set up a bit. Then you’re ready to break it into pieces and enjoy! It’s just enough time to get cozy with blankets and your favorite stuffed dinosaur! The salty Homestyle Pop Secret popcorn is a perfect compliment for the sweetness of the chocolate and the gummy dinosaurs. It makes this mix a yummy salty-sweet movie night snack!
The best part about this recipe? That your little dinosaur lover can make it pretty easily with only a little bit of help from you! It’s a super simple recipe and it tastes awesome (my little guy kept saying “It’s SO delicious!” as we watched the movie together).
I’m honestly thrilled that my son and I connect over this common love of dinosaurs. I especially love that we can bond over a series of movies that was such an integral part of my childhood, in a franchise that’s still releasing these awesome movies. Now that the entire collection is on DVD, we can enjoy them together any time we want. It kind of makes every night a family movie night!
- 2 cups popped Pop Secret Homestyle or Movie Theatre Butter Popcorn
- 1 package gummy dinosaur candy
- 3-4 chocolate sandwich cookies
- 1/3 cup white chocolate chips, melted
- 1-2 tablespoons sprinkles
- Coconut oil (optional)
- Pop Pop Secret popcorn according to package directions.
- Place popcorn on cookie sheet in a single layer.
- Randomly place gummy dinosaurs on top of popcorn.
- Sprinkle crushed sandwich cookies on top.
- Melt chocolate chips, adding coconut oil if necessary to make it thin enough to pour.
- Pour over popcorn mixture in a drizzling fashion.
- Sprinkle with sprinkles while the white chocolate is still wet.
- Place in refrigerator for 10-15 minutes or until white chocolate is set. Break apart and enjoy.
- This is a perfect movie night snack to accompany your favorite dinosaur movie, like one of the Land Before Time films!
