I love Valentine’s Day. The hearts, the pretty colors, the time spent with my favorite Valentine (who happens to be four years old). But I especially love the chocolate… what I don’t love is having to share dessert. That’s why I like single-serve options that I can make for the whole family to enjoy, just like the single-serve dessert shooters from some of my favorite restaurants. These black forest dessert shooters are sure to impress any Valentine, and they’re super easy to make.
To start the process, make your favorite chocolate cake from a mix, or buy a pre-made unfrosted chocolate cake or brownies. Then, crumble the cooled cake into small shooters, filling them about 1/3 full. Reserve about half of the cake for a later layer.
Next, top the layer of chocolate cake with canned cherry pie filling. You could substitute anything that goes well with chocolate, like chocolate pudding or strawberry pie filling, but for the full “Black Forest” flavor effect, you’ll want to go with cherry.
Finish the dessert with the remaining cake on top, filling the glasses until they’re full. Then, top with a swirl of whipped topping, and serve immediately. They’re perfect for giving one to your Valentine, and then keeping one (or more) for yourself. Plus, you can get quite a few of these out of a full cake and a jar of pie filling, so you’ll have no problem making them for a crowd, too!
You can even jazz it up with a few heart sprinkles for your honey.
- 1 unfrosted chocolate cake, cooled and crumbled
- 1 jar cherry pie filling
- Whipped topping
- Sprinkles (optional)
- Fill single-serve dessert cups 1/3 full with chocolate cake crumbles.
- Top with cherry pie filling, filling another 1/3 full.
- Finish with chocolate cake to the top of the dessert cup.
- Add whipped topping and sprinkles on top to finish.
There’s just something about single-serve desserts that I really love. Maybe it’s that they remind me of those adorable little dessert shooters at restaurants, or maybe there’s just something about a little indulgence just for me. But these are just super adorable and super easy to make, meaning they’re perfectly shareable (or not).
