After school snacks are difficult. I mean, it’s easy to provide wholesome meals to your kids, and it’s easy to pick delicious snacks, but it can be hard to pick a delicious snack that’s also wholesome and doesn’t take forever to prepare, because let’s face it, we’re all tight on time as we’re rushing from class to the soccer game to the grocery store and everywhere else. That’s where Honey Maid Go Bites come in. Not only are they awesomely delicious pockets of graham cracker-y goodness, but they’re wholesome and perfect for creating some fun recipes with!
I’ve talked a lot lately about how Zach is in everything from gymnastics to music class lately, and because of that, we’ve been spending a lot of time on the go. Pair that with Jeffrey now playing soccer year round, refereeing for soccer, and launching his own skateboarding brand, it’s sometimes hard to make sure they’re picking healthy choices. It’s so easy to grab convenience food, and it isn’t always the best stuff on the planet.
Luckily, one thing we CAN agree upon lately when it comes to snack time is Honey Maid Go Bites. When we first encountered them, it was nearly impossible to keep their hands off long enough for me to make a recipe with them! And I can understand why– they’re pockets of graham cracker-y goodness filled with chocolate or vanilla cream. There’s no reason not to love the taste!
But Honey Maid Go Bites aren’t just yummy… they’re snacks I don’t mind feeding to my family. Why? They’re pretty darn wholesome, providing kids with about 15% of their daily needs when it comes to whole grains and protein per serving.
And, I mean, they’re filled with chocolatey or vanilla flavor, so what’s not to love there?
Plus, instead of eating Honey Maid Go Bites straight out of the box (which is totally a delicious option, by the way), you can get creative with snacks like this fun parfait. I layered a little bit of chocolate pudding in the bottom of a glass, topped it with freshly sliced strawberries, and topped that with a generous sprinkling of Chocolate Honey Maid Go Bites for a chocolate-covered-strawberry flavored “sundae” treat.
Of course, Zach’s favorite parfait was vanilla pudding, sliced bananas, some sprinkles, and the Vanilla Honey Maid Go Bites! These were perfect snacks that looked fun and festive, perfect for celebrating a success (like Zach mastering his solo somersault at Gymnastics or Jeffrey passing his referee test)… and were topped with wholesome Honey Maid Go Bites to boot!
You see, protein is an essential nutrient that kids need, and whole grains are really, really good. But a recent study showed that less than 1% of kids are getting the recommended amount of whole grains in their diet. Moms, stop searching for snacks that provide great whole grains– Honey Maid really does have you covered.
And before you start worrying about what else is in them, Honey Maid products like Teddy Grahams and the Honey Maid Go Bites are maid without high fructose corn syrup, and contain real honey. They don’t have artificial colors, either!
And, you can make more than just parfaits with the Honey Maid Go Bites. I decided to make some delicious Honey Maid Go Bites Bars, too. You start by pouring one package of Vanilla Honey Maid Go Bites and one package of Chocolate Honey Maid Go Bites into a baggie (or two vanillas, or two chocolates– I don’t judge) and smashing them into bits. This is a great part to ask kids to help with, because, hello, great stress reliever, and it’s kind of fun to be told “Yes, you can totally break this!”
Meanwhile, butter a 9×9 pan, then melt 2 cups of marshmallows and a tablespoon of butter in a saucepan or microwave-safe dish (I microwaved in 30 second increments and they were done in about a minute).
Stir the crushed Honey Maid Go Bites into the marshmallow mixture, then press the mixture into the buttered pan. Place in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes to 1 hour, slice into bars, and serve.
You can wrap the Honey Maid Go Bites Bars in cling wrap or waxed paper to enjoy on the go, too! We got 12 bars out of this recipe.
If you haven’t seen these delicious bites yet, check the aisle where you find Teddy Grahams and Honey Maid Graham Crackers and you’re sure to see them! The suggested retail price is $4.19 (but I found some on sale for $2.15 at my local grocery store, so be sure to check your local store, too!) With 7g of whole grains and 5g of protein per serving, I really do feel great about serving this snack to Zach and Jeffrey. It’s something we can bag up and munch on after class, and just the other day, Jeffrey and his friends were munching on Vanilla Honey Maid Go Bites between rail slides (it’s a skateboarding thing, I guess?)
